Beat from the Bone
Work in progress
Beat from the Bone is like a trance - a rest in the never-ending beat. Through the power of shared rhythm, the performance aims to break down the barriers that keep us apart. The performance is a breathtaking, sweaty and stunningly acrobatic journey to the core of humanity.
The performance features five acrobats, wooden planks and aerial ropes. Planks and ropes are suspended in the air, climbed on, spun around, stood on with hands, and travelled along. The performers take turns manipulating them with their bodies and become moved by them in turn.
In the performance, the circus opens a channel to connect with one's own body, other people, and the ecosystem. Demanding physical tasks require strong concentration and presence in one's own body – a return to a non- verbal way of being in the world.
The performance is carried by a constant pulse rising from the body's own rhythms: heartbeats and breathing. The music and soundscape of the piece are created by sound artist Ville Aalto. The rhythms of music and circus intertwine, creating and shaping each other.
The approximately hour-long performance is aimed at adults and young people. It is created for medium and big stages.
